About:

The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture and Design is currently experiencing funding problems which could result in a large number of redundancies and a scaling down of operations, or possible total closure.

Update: 25/08
Lighthouse set to go into administration.

This blog was set up to see whether the Design, Architecture and Art communities (and others with an active interest in the activities of the Lighthouse) could, (using some collective thinking and web 2.0 technology), come up with a range of constructive suggestions for the future of the Lighthouse.

Disclaimer: This site is not run buy the Lighthouse. It is an independent initiative by a loose group of interested designers, architects and others.

Renew: to make like new : restore to freshness, vigor, or perfection: 'as we renew our strength in sleep'

Sort of chimes with the opening post on that Perspectives blog, which loosely equates as: More money into the arts = more artists = more poor artists = the arts is obviously still an attractive place to be.

New review for Lighthouse

20 November, 2009

Glasgow City Council has said it will come up with a long-term plan for the future of the Lighthouse architecture centre by next spring

It has now taken over running the building after the Lighthouse charity collapsed into administration at the end of August.

The council’s executive director for development and regeneration Steve Inch and city design adviser Gerry Grams have begun a review that is expected to be completed within four months. The intention is to keep the Ligh… Continue

Off-the-record

While wary of recounting anything second-hand, some interesting information emerged from the Lighthouse last week. BUT, there is a big fat disclaimer attached to this, in that it is unverified. Perhaps others can add to the information here.

The news seems to be that the Lighthouse Trust, the body charged with running the lighthouse and to whom the council, scottish executive and others would provide funding, will be wound up before the end of the year. The council will then take direct respons… Continue
